Project Overview

Overflow is an immersive visual video that explores the tension and convergence between natural systems and digital culture. Set within a large L-shaped projection space, the work places viewers inside an evolving environment where organic forms and computational structures coexist, overlap, and transform. The project reflects the experience of information overload in the digital age, framing it as a living system rather than a linear narrative.

Process

The project was built in Unreal Engine and After Effects using a mix of 2D and 3D elements, including particle systems, animated geometry, and procedural materials. Procedural materials were used to shift surfaces between organic and digital states, while Niagara particle systems handled changes in density and behavior across scenes. Together, these systems allowed natural and computational visuals to blend and transition fluidly, creating a cohesive experience that remained readable across a wide, multi-wall immersive space.

Final Result

The final piece played as a live visual environment synced to a 130 BPM New Year’s Eve DJ set. Natural elements gradually transformed into digital abstractions through beat-paced reveals and material shifts, building energy across the space without becoming visually overwhelming. Designed for large-scale projection, the work emphasized immersion and spatial impact, creating an audio-visual experience that felt expansive, atmospheric, and fully enveloping.
